Abstract:
Collisions of ultra-relativistic nuclei provide the opportunity to investigate in the laboratory the strong phase transition and the underlying theory of the strong force, quantum chromodynamics (QCD). The main goal is to verify the existence of the phase transition from hadronic matter to a deconfined system of quarks and gluons predicted by QCD, the quark-gluon plasma. A key observable used to characterise the properties and the evolution of this new system is anisotropic flow. In this talk, anisotropic flow of inclusive charged particles measured in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV will be presented. The results are compared to published measurements and also to theoretical/Monte Carlo predictions.
