Abstract: Medical image fusion plays an important role in radiotherapy treatment planning by improving the localization of target volumes, which allows better local tumor control and minimizes geographical misses. By registration and fusion of different images obtained by different imaging techniques, mutual information is obtained. The image fusion process involves combined images to delineate the anatomical and physiological differences from one data set to another. In this regard, the importance of a CT-MRI fusion tool, available in Eclipse v 11.0 software for 3D conformal radiotherapy for a patient with prostate cancer is presented and discussed. The CT-MRI fusion which allows to delineate the clinical target volume (CTV) and the organs at risk (OAR) permits to elaborate and to deliver a significant better treatment plan.
