Abstract: Sustainability of fuels is a problem that society faces more and more with the natural resource being exhausted at an accelerated rate. As a solution green or renewable technology is implemented in all areas, though not at the same speed as to compensate losses when talking about natural resources. This paper presents the current energy situation of a building for compulsory education, a school running on conventional energy supply methods, and a study of the most appropriate alternative methods to reduce long-term costs, create a sustainable and clean environment. Also, it promote by it’s own example, to the generations of children who will study on the premises, an alternative and a healthy, cheap and environmentally friendly way of life. The paper focuses on estimating annual heat consumption by using as a heat source a biomass boiler compensated by solar thermal panels and a surplus energy storage system as an alternative to the existing one operating on natural gas. At the same time, it is estimated an estimate of the electricity generated by the installation of photovoltaic panels and a comparison of the annual costs will be made in the two cases.
