Abstract:
Photofission represents the process of nuclear fission induced by gamma quanta. The natural Uranium has three isotopes 238U, 235U and 234U. The 238U isotope has the higher abundance (99.2745%) among the Uranium isotopes and therefore is of a great interest in the construction of new nuclear reactors because represents a potential huge fuel source. Cross section of photofission process of 238U is evaluated for gamma energy up to some MeV-s, including the giant-resonance region. The theoretical evaluated cross section is compared with experimental data. After a reliable description of the photofission cross section the fragments mass distribution is extracted. In this work standard codes and programs realized by the authors were used.
