Abstract:
We created a computer simulation program of a vibrating string using the Excel from the Office Pack. We used this well known Excel spreadsheets for writing the computer routines, because we tried to present that an easy to use and inexpensive software can be utilised to simulate a very complex process of nature and to introduce a visual description of this essential phenomenon for educational purposes. Using the Excel, we determined, the fundamental frequency of the string and its natural overtones as a function dependent of its natural parameters. There are two different situations: the first one is the plucked string, and the second one is the strucked string. The theoretical analysis were very close to both of the simulated situations, proving the validity of the computer model.
