Abstract:
The Fast Neutron Spectrometer (FNS100) [1] was examined in our lab [2] for its characteristics to measure fast neutrons in the energy range 1-10 MeV. Additional to this, two homemade plastic scintillator detectors NE102 were used for the first time to check neutrons' energy by time of flight (TOF) technique. Neutrons were created by the nuclear reaction 9Be(alpha,n)12C at the 3MV accelerator. A biparametric data acquisition system was used. We propose a new method to analyse the acquired data by which it is possible to mitigate the neutron 'background' from the spectrum and thus to identify the full neutron energy peaks.
