Abstract: This paper presents the comparison between the energy consumes of a traditional house built in 1980, located in the south of the country, Bolintin Deal, Giurgiu County, about 20 km from Bucharest, and a rehabilitated one. The house consists of four rooms, kitchen and bathroom with a total area of 103.35 m2. The construction is made of brick and warming up with wood. In order to ensure the quality of thermal comfort, environmental quality and minimal energy costs, the quality of materials used for thermal insulation and the type of glass was considered first. For thermal insulation, 50 cm thick extruded polystyrene was used, three-ply windows were insulated and the lindab sheet was used for the roof. This project has succeeded in reducing both energy mixes and reducing CO2 emissions by about 50% compared to the non-insulated standard house. In conclusion, every house can be rehabilitated with the passive house components and can achieve a heating energy requirement of about 2-3 times lower than the current rehabilitation. Additional costs are given by the thicker insulation, the high performance windows, the correct installation and the ventilation system.
