Abstract:
Being involved in a variety of feedbacks (e. g. the sea-ice albedo) and impacting the climate both regionally and globally, the planetary sea ice is a critical component of the climate system and a vital indicator of the global warming. Also, it represents a habitat for numerous animals being an important part of the polar ecosystems. The goal of this study is identify the dominant mode of Arctic and Antarctic sea ice variability using observational data from satellite measurements extending over the 1979-2016 period.
