Abstract:
A greenhouse is a well-defined construction that provides a controllable environment for plant growth, seed germination, and cultivation. Metropolitan areas are constantly expanding, agricultural land being occupied by housing and industrial buildings, which leads to a decline in agriculture in these areas. Modification in the environment (pollution, demineralization of the soil, etc.) and climate change are other factors that influence the yield of production in agriculture. In this paper, we report the development of an automatic monitoring system for a greenhouse. The system is composed of an Arduino microcontroller, temperature and humidity sensors, light and soil moisture sensors, carbon dioxide sensors, all of them connected through a wireless module for data acquisition. The system ensures a continuous monitoring of the soil, air and water and any modification is relayed to the operator.
