Abstract:
Relativistic heavy ion collisions provide the opportunity to study nuclear matter under extreme conditions of temperature and density in the laboratory. The large number of particles created in this collisions makes the statistical approach suitable to describe the particle production. All of the statistical models require thermal and chemical equilibrium in the hadronic phase. Due to the strong expansion, the system formed in a heavy ion collisions may not be in a thermal equilibrium state. Tsallis statistics is appropriate for the study of complex systems with a certain degree of non-equilibrium. In this work, we have analized the transverse momentum spectra of pi± and K± produced in Au-Au collisions at sqrt(s) = 7.7, 11.5, 19.6, 27 and 39 GeV from the STAR experiment in the Beam Energy Scan (BES) Program at RHIC, using the Tsallis distribution. The energy and collision centrality dependence of the Tsallis fit parameters, Tsallis temperature and non-extensivity parameter, a parameter characterizing the degree of non-equilibrium for the systems produced in these collisions will be presented. The physics implications of these results on the collision dynamics and kinetic freeze-out will be discussed.
