Abstract:
It has been proven that, in the framework of Time Dependent Density Functional Theory, the dynamics of a system of fermions can be described within a hydrodynamic Model. Unfortunately, this model lacks an exact representation of the kinetic pressure tensor as density functional. Although simple approximations are known, these are not able to reproduce basic properties of the dynamics, features that can be captured in more complex kinetic/microscopic theories. For this reason, in the present work, a novel density functional approximation for the kinetic pressure of a fermionic gas is derived. The proposal is tested both in linear and non-linear regimes, yielding good overall improvements in comparison with the old approximations.
