Abstract: Saccharomyces cerevisiae are widespread in the scientific community for versatile applications, the main reason being that they have complex internal cell structure. In addition, yeast cells are easy to manipulate, they are widely available and rapidly reproduce.
In this study, nanomechanical properties of fungi Saccharomyces cerevisiae were investigated with the Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). Bacteria were deposited on freshly cleaved mica and studied in adhesion of AFM tip to the surfaces of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The method proposed, i.e. direct deposition of microorganisms onto the freshly cleaved mica substrate, has the advantage of being easy to use without any sample or substrate pretreatment.
