Abstract:
The future generation LAr-TPC detectors are intended for research regarding the neutrino physics. One of these detectors will be DUNE (Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment) at Fermilab with its prototypes at CERN, with the sensitive volume filled with great amounts of liquid argon, 300 tones in the case of ProtoDUNE-DP. The technology used is the time projection chamber and the detectors will register both the ionization electrons and the scintillation photons produced in liquid argon. As it is well known, neutrinos are very elusive particles due to their small interaction cross sections, hence a very good knowledge and understanding of the background sources is crucial for neutrino experiments. One of these sources is the Cherenkov light emitted by decay electrons produced by radioactive impurities in the LAr volume (like 39Ar), which can produce background for the scintillation light. This work will present the simulated results obtained with FLUKA for the Cherenkov radiation.
