Abstract:
A simple mechanical model for the vertical motion with linear drag of a pulsejet equipped system (PES) in gravitational field is proposed. The lift force is neglected and the fluid is expelled with constant speed into the opposite direction of the PES motion. The thrust is explained by the linear momentum conservation law applied to the intake/exhaust processes assumed as instantaneous and periodic. The characteristics of the dynamics as function of pulse duration are discussed. The model is applied to small size cephalopods swimming in sea water in vertical direction.
