Efficient Computation of the Trident Pair Production Spectra in Long Pulsed Plane-Wave Laser Fields

Abstract:
Trident pair production is considered in a pulsed plane-wave laser field. It is studied using the lightfront formalism and analytically integrating away transverse momenta. The division of the propagator into two lightfront instantaneous / non-instantaneous terms and the exchange of identical particles lead to the appearance of six terms, with different structures. They all contribute to what is known as a one-step process, but only one of them corresponds, in part, to the so-called two-step process. For a large intensity parameter a0, or for a long pulse, the latter dominates the former process. We developed an efficient method to compute the spectrum produced by a long laser pulse in the coherent, nonperturbative regime of a0 around unity. The differences between circular and linear polarisation are made manifest, the more complex structure evidenced in the latter case being related to the oscillations in the effective mass.
