High energy cosmic rays

Abstract:
The field of high energy cosmic rays is one of the hottest scientific subjects of the recent research in high energy physics and astrophysics. The origin of these cosmic messengers, the mechanisms of acceleration to tremendous energies and the propagation to the Earth are still incompletely understood. The study of the energy spectrum and of the mass composition may provide significant insight for improving our knowledge in the field and suggest solutions for the problems. The experimental information relies on the analysis of large experiments like Pierre Auger Observatory [1], Telescope Array [2], etc. In view of the complexity of the experiments and of the analysis of data, the high energy cosmic rays experiments are run by large international collaborations. The Faculty of Physics of the University of Bucharest is a member in several collaborations, like KASCADE-Grande [3] and Pierre Auger Observatory. In this work, a short summary of the results achieved by these collaborations is presented.
