Abstract:
In the last decades, significant developments were achieved in the field of gamma-ray spectrometry. The tendency for improving the quality of the measurement (accuracy, detection limit, efficiency), in parallel with broadening the field of applications, stimulated the progress in detector manufacturing. Higher performance detectors and more demanding targets of the measurement required also the development of refined procedures for analysis, frequently based on Monte Carlo simulation. In the particular field of radionuclide metrology and of the applications of gamma-ray spectrometry for activity determination in the last decades the Faculty of Physics of the University of Bucharest had a significant contribution in the development of accurate and robust methods. This contribution is in line with the long tradition of gamma-ray spectrometry in the Faculty of Physics. In this work several studies carried out in the Faculty of Physics in this field are presented and discussed in the context of the international effort of developing improved tools for gamma-ray spectrometry analysis.
