Abstract:
One of the major goals of high-energy heavy-ion collisions is to explore the properties of strongly interacting nuclear matter, as it may undergo a phase transition into a system of deconfined quarks and gluons (quark-gluon plasma, QGP). Transverse momentum distributions of charged pions, kaons, protons and antiprotons produced in Au-Au collisions at relativistic energies were studied using Boltzmann statistics. The temperature obtained from the pT spectrum using the Boltzmann distribution that does not include the flow effect, is typically an effective temperature (Teff). The collision centrality and energy dependence of the effective temperatures will be presented. Based on the mass dependence of the effective temperatures, the thermal freeze-out parameters (the thermal freeze-out temperature and the transverse collective flow velocity) of the produced system were extracted. The physics implications of these results on the collision dynamics and kinetic freeze-out will be discussed.
