 Abstract:
The combination between Aquaculture and Hydroponics is Aquaponics. Plants grow in the absence of soil thanks to Hydroponics. The Aquaponics system is easy to control and use, and also the development of plants is very simple. The Aquaponics functioning principle is based on the solid waste and ammonia produced by fish. This fertilizer is carried from the aquarium to the grow bed where the plants are. Micro bacteria from plants break down ammonia and transform it into nitrite, then into nitrate. Plants absorb nutrients and nitrate and so they grow and fish live in a clean aquarium. This study presents a aquaponics system monitored by an Arduino microprocessor. We analysed several plants like lettuce, cabbage, cucumber in order to identify the proper genus to grow in this system. Also, temperature and humidity values were recorded during three months. The system was monitored also in the presence of goldfishes from the aquarium.
