Abstract:
Starting from the classic electromagnetic field, the next essential step is represented by the quantization of the field. First, we consider the expansion in the plane waves basis. Then, we construct one-photon states with definite momentum and helicity. Further, we study the connection between spherical photons, having well-defined angular momentum and helicity, and twisted photons. We focus on a method devoted to describe the interaction between helical beams and some mesoscopic physical systems. We explore the selection rules and how states with different angular momenta can be excited in this case.
