Title: The Integration of IoT projects in the teaching and learning of Physics

Abstract: The IoT concept is related with an ecosystem of smart devices interconnected by local or global (Internet) networks. These devices collect and share data using a variety of communications technologies: NFC, RFID, Bluetooth, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, GSM, GPRS, 3G, 4G, 5G, etc. IoT applications have been implemented in most economic sectors. The rapid development and diversification of IoT applications will, in the near future, lead to a steady increase in demand for skilled personnel in this field. Under these circumstances, integration of IoT courses into pre-university curriculum becomes a necessity. The economy of modern society is fully dependent on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
In the Education sector, STEM type programs have already been developed and implemented. This educational model supports the integrated approach to the study of Science through Project-Based Learning (PBL). That is why the integration of IoT projects into the classroom is perfectly in line with the objectives of the STEM program. The skills developed in the field of STEM are extremely important and will become strictly necessary in the future because today's students will be the architects of the society of tomorrow. In this paper I have shown, by two projects, how the Arduino and Raspberry Pi platforms can be used to develop IoT school projects in Physics lessons. These platforms capture environmental data through an extended sensor system (temperature, light, pressure, humidity, force, acceleration, sound, magnetic field, etc.), making it perfectly suited to make projects in STEM educational field. The first of this projects, named Temperature and Humidity Monitoring using the IoT ThingSpeak platform, was developed on Arduino, and the second, named Mobile Robotics Platform for Video Surveillance over the Internet, was developed on Raspberry Pi.
