Abstract:
We present various facets of the Pygmy Dipole Resonance (PDR), an elusive mode in nuclear systems which has been the subject of numerous experimental and theoretical investigations and is also part of the experiments proposed at ELI-NP. Our presentation is focused on both schematic models based on separable interactions and microscopic transport approaches which use the semiclassical Vlasov equation. Several prominent features of the PDR, including collectivity and the role of the symmetry energy, are discussed and a detailed comparison with experimental properties such as energy centroid and sum-rules is presented. Lastly, based on our results we propose a mechanism for the appearance of Pygmy Dipole Resonance and the development of the collectivity.
