Abstract: Probiotics, known for their beneficial health effects, have attracted attention as potential electricity producers in biobattery applications. This paper aims to demonstrate that probiotics can generate an electrical potential and to evaluate their possible use in biobatteries and medical devices.
To test the potential of probiotics we chose three probiotics on the market which have Lactobacillus bacteria in their composition.
The first part of the experiment consisted of measuring the redox potential of probiotics. The result of the measurements determining which probiotic will be used in the microbial fuel cell. The second part of the experiment consisted of measuring the potential of the probiotic studied in a microbial fuel cell. For both experiments the followed procedure, methods and used materials were presented. The data obtained were evaluated from the perspective of the use of probiotics in devices such as biobatteries.
