Electrochemical Characterization of Vintage Writing Inks-First Attempt for Chronological Ordering as a Function of the Double Charged Layer

Abstract:
In this work we characterized electrochemically 12 samples of vintage writing inks, based on different formulation. The inks were purchased from various sources, ranging from auctions to flea markets. The composition of each ink revealed different voltammograms, with individual peaks on the anodic and cathodic wave and with different double changed layer.
The inks were dispersed at 1% concentration in a low acidity solution and tested on a microsensor DRP-110 from Dropsens.
Based on the peak intensity and peak potential, as well as the double charged layer, we ranked the writing inks in chronological order and compared it with the estimated fabrication date. This is the first attempt to authenticate the inks based on their electrochemical behaviour.
