Abstract: Augmented Reality (AR) has emerged as a promising tool for rendering abstract scientific concepts visible and interactive. This study reviews existing research on the use of augmented reality (AR) media in physics instruction and its impact on students’ cognitive abilities. Drawing on studies published between 2010 and 2024, we conducted a comprehensive survey of peer-reviewed articles, conference proceedings, and doctoral dissertations retrieved from ERIC, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Inclusion criteria targeted empirical investigations that integrated AR applications into secondary or tertiary physics learning and assessed outcomes related to spatial reasoning, conceptual understanding, problem-solving transfer, or working memory. We conclude that AR media holds clear potential to strengthen key cognitive dimensions in physics learning, especially spatial reasoning and conceptual transfer. Future work should prioritize standardized assessment frameworks, investigate cost-effective deployment in diverse classrooms, and explore adaptive AR environments that dynamically adjust cognitive demand.
