Abstract: The increasing integration of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, presents significant challenges in terms of stability and quality of electricity in contemporary grids.
In this paper, the modeling of a reactive compensation system is proposed with the main goal of maintaining voltage and power factor within acceptable limits, while considering the fluctuations caused by the variability of renewable energy sources. To evaluate their performance in different operating scenarios, Flexible AC Transmission Systems(FACTS) devices are used, in particular STATCOM and SVC, which have been modeled and simulated in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The proposed model considers sudden variations in production from renewable sources, load changes and how the grids behave over time.
The results show how effective the proposed solutions are in improving voltage stability, power losses and grid reliability. The study provides a theoretical and practical basis for creating complex reactive power control strategies in smart grids. These strategies help transform the energy system into a more flexible, resilient and sustainable one.
