Abstract:
Some photophysical properties of molecules involved in biophysical/biomedical areas lay in the nanosecond time scale (e.g. the life-time of the excited states of Porphyrin and its derivatives - a class of substances applied in cancer treatment). Accordingly, it is a must that methods employed to study these properties to have suitable time resolution. The report will describe the experimental lay-out of a laser system used to study the TRANSIENT ABSORPTION of the molecules of the kind, based on the PUMP-and-PROBE method. The key features of the described system are: · The pulse duration: 1 nanosecond · The energy of the pump pulse: 20 microjoules · The time resolution: 0.5 nanoseconds · The maximum time-span between the pump and the probe pulses: 20 nanoseconds
