Abstract: Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are the most powerful events in the Universe. Despite the fact that GRBs were
discovered more than three decades ago, today they still represent a mystery. However, in the last five
years a huge step forward was made towards the understanding of these phenomena, both theoretically
and observationally. In principle, a link was established between GRBs and supernovae (SNe). Nowadays,
there is a race for observational proofs for this association. Unfortunately, the amount of data is limited
and leaves room for many interpretations. Here, we investigate the evidence for GRBs-SNe connection as
it appears from observations to date, discussing also alternative explanations, in the frame-work of the
fireball and cannonball models. Emphasis will be set on one of the most interesting GRBs so far, a very
energetic and close event which took place recently, on March 29, 2003.
