Abstract: Many modern applications of lasers require extremely high TEM00 Gaussian beam quality.Early a gaussian fit for the transverse intensity distribution was considered enough.Yet it has been shown that this criteria is not precise and reglementation ISO/11146 gives the M2 propagation factor as the quantity that quantifies laser`s performances .In our experiment a lens was put far away in front of the laser`s output in order to have acces at more than a Raleigh range from the waist beam . The auxiliary beam diameter was measured for five locations .
A hyperbolic fit of the experimental data gives the propagation factor, the waist location, the waist diameter, the Raleigh range and the beam divergence . Using the thin lens transform equations the parameters of the original beam are obtained.
Then we studied the influence of a Spectra -Physics collimator on the transversal field distribution .Our final goal is to use this laser in long-distance alignment applications .
