In the present operational version of the MEDIA model of pollutant transport and diffusion, the horizontal turbulent diffusion coefficients are assumed to be constants. The aim of this paper is to introduce a spatio-temporal dependence of these coefficients, using a parameterization of the divergent subgrid motions. The parameterization of the subgrid terms is taken to be proportional with the absolute value of the horizontal wind divergence.
Even the pollutant cloud extension and evolution in time cannot be verified against experimental data, results showed the new version is able to feel the presence of the orography.
