Abstract:
The situation of n-n correlation at the pre-emission of halo neutron from 11Li was critically analyzed recently (M.Petrascu et al. Phys Rev C 69 011602 (2004), Nucl.Phys A734,327, Nucl. Phys A738, 503 (2004)). In our investigation of the halo nuclei by means of the correlation function a neutron array detector with solid scintillator was used. It was shown that in order to obtain the intrinsic correlation function it is necessary to perform an experiment in which 11Li and 11Be beams are used. A new screening effect of the target, which can results in the increasing number of the neutron emitted by the 12C target, was also revealed (M. Petrascu et al. Phys Rev C 00, 007600, (2006)). It was estimated that, due to this new effect, a new theory of the n-n correlation function (M. P. Yamashita et al. Phys. Rev. C72, 011601 R (2005)) could be tested. In order to perform new 2n and 4n correlation measurements it was decided to construct a new array detector using liquid scintillators, able to completely discriminate between n and γ events. Results regarding the detection efficiency, the neutron energy threshold of the neutron array detector and the time resolution in presence of cross-talks, obtained by Monte Carlo simulations using MENATE and GEANT codes, are presented.
