Abstract:
We study various approximations for the isovector pairing in N=Z nuclei. It is shown that the BCS model is not able to describe well the pairing correlation energies and the staggering of odd-even mass difference along N=Z line. A significant improvement is obtained in the PBCS approximation with two pair condensates, one formed by neutron-proton pairs and the other by neutron-neutron and proton-proton pairs. It is finally shown that a quartet-type wave function, which restore the isospin symmetry, gives very accurate results. The performance of all approximations mentioned above is analysed in an exactly solvable SO(5)model.
