Abstract: The WILLI detector, installed in the National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering ā Horia Hulubei Bucharest has been devised for studies of atmospheric muons, in particular of the muon charge ratio. We report on the results of studies for various muon energies (pĀµ < 1 GeV/c). The results are compared with Monte-Carlo simulations performed with CORSIKA and GEANT codes.
We are exploring the potential of a mini array installed around the actual WILLI set up for triggering the muon charge ratio measurements by Extended Air Shower (EAS) events and are considering the prospects of a future WILLI-UG installed deep underground in a salt mine for measurements of very high energy muons, with respect of experimental features discriminating various alternatives of hadronic interaction models en vogue for EAS simulations.
