Abstract:
Craterization is a phenomenon that affects all (solid crust) celestial bodies. There are important differences in the frequency and aspect of the impact craters, due mostly to different atmosphere compositions and densities. Celestial bodies with thin or without atmosphere maintain traces of impacts since their solidification. The study of impact craters enables us to draw conclusions on the size and mass distributions, speed and composition of the impacting bodies. The theoretical modeling of the formation of impact craters is compared in this work with laboratory experiment. The dependence of crater characteristics on the properties of the projectile is statistically studied.
