Abstract:
Molecular dynamics were used to simulate the inelastic scattering of He atoms on different graphite surface models containing from one up to six atomic planes. Statistics of millions of collisions were analyzed versus the polar and azimuthal scattering angle corresponding to a fixed value of energy (3-10 eV) and direction (20-35 degrees) of the incident He atom. The energy exchange from the projectile to the graphite has been analised versus the depth in to the target. The interatomic C-C and He-C interactions were calculated using a modified Morse potential already used successfully for simulating carbon nanotube and graphene systems. The parameters of the surface model were re-calibrated in order to yield results comparable to real experiments.
