Abstract:
Measurement of the parametrical resonance frequency of charged microparticles stored in a linear electrodynamic trap is described. The linear trap consists of four rods electrodes supplied by a harmonic high ac voltage. Two endcap electrodes supplied by a dc voltage assure the axial stability of the stored particle. The microparticles consist of the micrometer sized SiC stored in the standard temperature and pressure conditions. Modulating the amplitude of the high ac supply voltage excites the parametrical resonance. A laser beam is focused along the axis of the linear trap. The scattered light by stored microparticles is recorded by an integrated photdetector. By analyzing amplitude of the electrical signal provided by the photodetector as a function of the high ac supply voltage modulation frequency the parametrical resonances can be detected.
