Abstract:
The operational meteorological activity is a laborious process which uses a large amount of meteorological data and complex models. For an efficient analysis and description of all weather situations in a particular area, a lot of classifications of atmospheric air circulation were made, based on the characteristics of a particular type of synoptic configuration. The aim of this paper is to select those circulations that are more frequent for the southwestern Romania by using COST 733 Catalogues and to classify them according to their frequency, using multiple regression method (like statistical downscaling method). The potential large-scale predictors used are 500 hPa heights, sea level pressure, 850 hPa temperature, wind field at 700 hPa, precipitable water content of the entire tropospheric column. The source of the large-scale upper-air fields was the NCEP reanalyses, for the 2000-2010 interval. The domain of the research was chosen at the intersection of Domain 7, Domain 8 and Domain 10 from COST733 Catalogue, considering the influence of the main baric centers of atmospheric action in the investigated area.
