Abstract:
Experimental studies on the dc energy absorption of the charged microparticles stored in a quadrupolar electrodynamic trap are reported. A linear trap operating in standard temperature and pressure conditions has been used in order to stored charged microparticles. The dc supply voltage of the trap electrodes has been modified. The dc voltage Uz is replaced by a capacitor which is connected periodically to the trap electrodes. Changes of the capacitor circuit characteristics due to the microparticle vertical motion are observed. Influences of the linear trap operating point (AC voltage and frequency, DC voltage) and microparticles dimensions on the capacitor energy supplementary losses are investigated. Results are compared with the theoretical estimations.
