Abstract:
Monitoring historical monuments wall temperature represents an important fact related to cultural heritage rebuilding and conservation. Regarding historical monuments field diagnosis concept refers from land to buildings, paintings, frescoes or icons located inside. For each one of them diagnosis is based on specific methods and various categories which complete each other. In our case diagnosis method is based on a thermal camera. Using this camera it is possible to determine wall temperature. The procedure is quite simple. First an IR picture is taken; then, aided by specialized software an ample report is realized containing detailed thermal information. Thermal images are compared with normal ones and stored with numerical data related to wall temperature and different other calibration data of the camera. Further more dedicated data bases can built for a comprehensive vision of whole phenomena. During April 2004 measurements of wall temperature were taken at several historical monuments from Constanta county. These monuments included painted funeral chambers from Constanta and the cave churches complex from Basarabi. Both objectives were monitored taking 3 measurements per day for several days. Together with archeologists critical points were established, points where temperature variation caused wall deterioration; after that images were taken of those specific points. Using specialized software these images were processed. The results are part of multiple data used to a precise analysis of microclimate conditions at former mentioned monuments.
