Abstract: Distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) were defined as evoked nonlinear responses by two primary stimuli and generated by the nonlinear properties of the cochlea. They were studied concerning primary frequency ratio, stimulus level, and noise exposure effect. Normal hearing subjects participated.
The aim was to investigate the DPOAE level vulnerability to moderate and loud noise exposure.
The equipment used was a DP 2000, DPOAE Measurement System provided by Starkey Laboratories Inc USA, which permitted data collection in a noninvasive and objective manner over lengthy periods of time, without any interference with the cochlea’s normal mode of operation.
There were no observed effects on the shape of DPOAE amplitude after moderate noise exposure. Significant oscillations of DPOAE amplitude were seen after short time (30 sec) loud noise exposure. After a 24 hours time interval, measured from the end of the noise exposure, DPOAE amplitude was stabilized at before the experiment DPOAE collected data.
