Abstract:
The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) can be considerate the most important reaction in energy converting systems such as fuel cells [1]. The mechanism of the electrochemical O2 reduction reaction is complicated, because it depends on the nature of the electrode material, catalyst, and electrolyte. The study compares Iron and Iron-Carbon compounds obtained by polyol process technique respective laser pyrolysis technique. The materials showed different particle sizes and different morphological characteristics. It is shown that the difference in the morphology of the catalysts is the main effect in the different performances. The characterization of the samples has been performed by SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and the electrochemical oxidation potentials were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry.
