Abstract:
Reliable measurement results in gamma spectrometry require a validated calibration method of the radiation detection system. For this, there were performed the calibration in energy, resolution and efficiency of a gamma spectrometer based on a p-type High-Purity Germanium coaxial detector of 30% relative efficiency, using standard point gamma sources. The identification and quantification of a radioactive source of unknown activity were done in order to validate the calibration method. The measurement system was set to identify radionuclides emitting X and gamma radiation in the energy range: 10keV-2000keV. The spectra acquisition and data processing were realised using a specialized software, namely, Gamma Vision-32 from Ortec company.
