Abstract:
Photovoltaic cells based on CdTe thin films were prepared by thermal vacuum evaporation (TVE) onto optical glass substrates covered with ITO and ITO/IGZO thin films as transparent conductive oxides (TCO’s). IGZO thin films were deposited in situ onto ITO layers, by magnetron sputtering. The optical investigations revealed a transmittance higher than 60% in 190 – 1100 nm range for both ITO and ITO/IGZO layers. The optical gap for window (CdS, cadmium sulfide) and absorber (CdTe, cadmium telluride) films was determined and the obtained values were similar with those in literature; the structural features were analyzed by X-ray diffraction technique. For the prepared photovoltaic structures electrical measurements were performed and the specific parameters, like external quantum efficiency (EQE), were calculated and compared. This study showed that IGZO thin films can be used as TCO’s replacing the conventional ITO; moreover, a photoelectrical behavior was revealed improving the photovoltaic performances of the prepared samples.
