Abstract:
The use of semiconductors as detectors for particle and astroparticle physics or cosmology imposes the understanding of the processes produced in material, their effects on the electronic properties and at the device level. A high energy particle interacts with matter in different ways depending on its energy, mass charge state and the species it interacts with. The production of structural defects, their basic properties, differences between effects due to different kinds of particles as ions or “exotic” particles and their interactions are considered and discussed in the present communication in correlation with detection processes.
